In Case of Climate Emergency - Break Glass - Sticker Order Form

At 7am on the 7th April 2021, 7 women cracked windows at Barclays global HQ in Canary Wharf to call them out as the biggest fossil fuel funder in Europe. Barclays have profited whilst the world burns and floods. They have ‘invested’ $167 billion in coal, oil and gas since the Paris Agreement. Barclays are also one the world’s biggest funders of biodiversity loss, and plastics pollution. They took action to send a message to Barclays and the whole banking sector to build pressure on the decision makers to change their ways and stop driving us off a cliff.

The action was entirely nonviolent and carefully undertaken so that no living being was harmed. They cracked the glass, put the tools down and sat down and waited to be arrested. You can replace glass windows, you cannot replace lives, livelihoods, species, whole ecosystems and human cultures being destroyed by the bank-funded climate and ecological emergency.

They were arrested, charged with ‘criminal damage’ and 19 months later had a 2 week Jury trial.

Sadly they were found ‘guilty’... guilty of care, guilty of compassion, and guilty of the courage to step up and take action against a political economy that is putting profit before all life. The current legal system is incapable and unwilling to put the real criminals on trial!

They are being sentenced on 27th January and face up to 18 month prison sentences, with legal costs, and potential fines/other financial consequences. Now they need your support

You are invited to place A4 stickers, with the slogan ‘In Case of Climate Emergency - Break Glass’ on the windows of your local Barclays branch on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of January, to send a clear message to Barclays, that you can jail the resistors, but you can't jail the resistance. We will not stop taking action against Barclays until they stop funding climate breakdown.
