It's Time to Get Organized: Protect Cultural Workers

Cultural workers are facing rising threats on the job, including threats of budget cuts and layoffs. At the same time, the White House is defunding the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which provides vital support to our nation’s cultural institutions.

We need to Get Organized. Billionaires and anti-union extremists have more power and influence than ever. But they want even more, and they are working to take it from us.

They are already withholding critical funding for federal, state and local budgets, which pay for the work we do. They want to slash our retirement and health care benefits that come from Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to give themselves trillions in tax cuts. The effects these cuts will have on state and county budgets will have ripple effects and impact all cultural workers and the communities we serve.

These anti-union extremists want to destroy the public services we provide, while rolling back laws that protect our health and safety at work, our job security, and even the freedom to join a union. These cuts also challenge the infrastructure that supports creative spaces, economic opportunity, the preservation of history, culture and education, and our foundation of democracy. They aren’t calling it Project 2025 – but make no mistake, that’s exactly what they’re implementing.

We need to tell them that we’re not going to let that happen. It’s our hard work – not the greed of billionaires and anti-union extremists – that makes our communities stronger.

We’re going to fight back.
