Jeffco Health Insurance: It's time for an overhaul!

Do you stand with your JESPA colleagues in the fight for improved and more affordable health insurance?

It's time for the school district and state legislators to stand with JESPA on improving health insurance for public employees. We have some initial commitment from the district to improve our situation, but now we need to propel this work forward and your commitment and stories are needed.

JESPA's bargaining team proposed 100% paid health insurance premiums for individuals on all plans, and that the district pay 80% of all other plans instead of the flat rate of $549 per month they currently pay. When insurance companies raise their rates and the district only has to pay a flat rate, the increases are simply passed on to employees. If the district were to pay a percentage of the premium, they might be more incentivized to stand with us to look for improvements.

I'm with JESPA: It's time for an insurance overhaul!

As an Education Support Professional of Jeffco Public Schools, health insurance is an important job benefit. But our benefits have continued to grow in cost while the plan quality has gone down. Our health benefits need improvement.  Jeffco employees are struggling to make ends meet, turnover is high, and we are severely understaffed. We are stretched and unable to meet student needs.   We must do better to attract and retain Education Support Professionals, and this means improving both pay and benefits.
