Extinction Rebellion Nova Scotia

Extinction Rebellion Nova Scotia

...is part of an international effort that started in the UK in the fall of 2018 and has been established in over 74 countries.

In NS we have been active since November 2018 and have groups in 7 communities. In that time, we have held actions that resulted in meetings with the CBC and the Chronicle Herald to discuss improved coverage of the climate crisis and are having ongoing meetings with Nova Scotia Power to discuss faster transition to renewable energy and reduction in the burning of coal and biomass to generate electricity. Along with activists from other organizations and forestry groups we helped bring about the postponement of the Corbett-Dalhousie Lake Forest cut. XR has also been active in trying to obtain agreements from town and county councils to declare climate emergencies and implement plans to transition to clean energy sources and reduce their carbon footprint. We are also engaged in pressuring banks to divest from their fossil fuel investments.

  • Our governments are failing to protect us. Current policies are gassing the planet and stealing our children's future. To safeguard human survival, we must end all supports and investments in fossil fuels and transition to net zero carbon emissions as quickly as possible.
  • Peaceful, non-violent direct action and civil disobedience are effective ways to force governments to take notice: think Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, the Suffragettes.

WE DECLARE:

INTERNATIONAL NON-VIOLENT REBELLION AGAINST THE WORLD’S GOVERNMENTS FOR CRIMINAL INACTION ON THE ECOLOGICAL CRISIS
WE DEMAND:
  • GOVERNMENTS TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ECOLOGICAL CRISIS
  • WWII-SCALE CLIMATE MOBILIZATION FOR ZERO EMISSIONS & DRAWDOWN BY 2025
  • PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY TO OVERSEE THE CHANGES

Come to one of our public presentations to learn more about us and possibly become involved. There are many ways people can engage in helping ensure we take the climate crisis seriously.
