In April 2025, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) ordered the cancellation of approximately $400 million in AmeriCorps grants — around 40 percent of the agency's annual budget. This has decimated the agency and its ability to serve those most in need, in New York and the entire nation.

The Trump administration has suggested eliminating AmeriCorps entirely. On July 21st, the subcommittee with jurisdiction over AmeriCorps will decide the budget for the fiscal year 2026. We must let our representatives know that we need AmeriCorps and will not tolerate its destruction.
