Join the Black Lung Associations to rally in DC!

A promotional image for a rally demanding protections against black lung disease. On the left side, bold red and white text over a black background with lung graphics reads: "Rally with Miners to Demand Black Lung Protections! Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. Department of Labor Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, D.C." On the right side, a group of people, many wearing "Black Lung Kills" t-shirts, stand together holding a banner that says "Black Lung Association" with a graphic of a crossed pickaxe and shovel. An American flag is visible behind them.

Black lung disease is a horrible condition — but it’s preventable. Coal companies should have to follow a new, commonsense rule that would help protect miners from dust that causes black lung disease. But so far, the Trump administration has delayed the rule from going into effect.

Now, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, coal miners, members of the Black Lung Association and their supporters will rally to demand that the administration fight to preserve a rule meant to protect miners from exposure to silica dust. Join us in Washington, D.C. to support miners and their families!

Silica dust exposure is a leading cause of the rise in black lung disease. In April 2024, the Mine Safety and Health Administration finalized a rule to protect miners from silica dust, which was supposed to go into effect in April 2025. But instead, MSHA — under new leadership — blocked the rule this past April. The mining industry also took the rule to court, where the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals put an indefinite pause on the rule’s implementation after the Trump administration failed to oppose the industry’s request.

Every day of delayed enforcement increases miners’ exposure to silica and their risk of black lung disease. Now, members of the Black Lung Association and their supporters are holding a rally in front of the Department of Labor to demand the administration fight to preserve the silica rule. Join us!
