Join the Boycott of Non-Union Starbucks Stores
A cup of solidarity brewed by a unionized barista? What could be better than that?!
The fledgling Starbucks Workers United union has shown terrific early success, winning union elections at more than 300 stores with over 70% of the vote, and covering over 8,000 workers.
Starbucks claims to be a “progressive” corporation, but did they sit down at the table in good faith and negotiate with the new union?
Of course not! Instead, they brought former CEO, billionaire Howard Schultz, out of retirement to mastermind an aggressive and illegal union-busting campaign.
Starbucks’ tactics have resulted in scores of complaints to the National Labor Relations Board, covering over 300 unfair labor practice charges. These tactics include firing workers, closing unionized stores, threatening wages and benefits, and bringing in outside management. The NLRB has ordered reinstatement of at least 23 fired workers so far.
Asked in a Senate hearing by Bernie Sanders if he had ever “threatened, coerced, or intimidated a worker for supporting a union,” Schultz’s response was that he had had “conversations that could’ve been interpreted in a different way than I intended..."
That’s double speak for “yes” plain and simple.
Starbucks is a multibillion dollar company. Its newest CEO will start with a pay package estimated to be worth over $28 million dollars. That’s roughly 800x the pay of the workers who actually brew and serve the coffee the business is built on -- and who barely earn a living wage.
The Starbucks union campaign has inspired young workers across the country and breathed life into a U.S. labor movement that has been stagnant for decades.
Now is an opportunity for all of us to make our voices heard in support of these hard working organizers by demanding Starbucks stop union busting and bargain in good faith with Starbucks Workers United immediately.
It’s time to let Starbucks know: we will not put up with their aggressive and illegal union busting campaign. Sign the pledge to boycott non-union Starbucks stores now!
