Join the Campaign to Pass the Housing Trust Fund!
On November 5th, New Orleans voters will consider a dedicated revenue for creating and preserving affordable housing.
Instead of levying a new tax, the people of New Orleans have demanded that city officials create a Housing Trust Fund, using existing funds to strategically prioritize keeping citizens safely housed.
If the housing trust fund ballot measure passes it would allocate 2% of the yearly budget or about $17-20 million dollars a year for affordable housing. To be very clear, this is NOT a new tax, but it simply means 2 % of the city’s General Fund, which comes from local taxes and other revenues, would be dedicated to affordable housing.
Your help to pass the Housing Trust Fund will help support three priorities:
Creating affordable rental housing including filling financial gaps and incentivizing landlords.
Preserving affordable rental housing including supporting small landlords to make critical improvements.
Creating and preserving affordable homeownership opportunities, including the rehabilitation of formerly blighted properties and adding fortified roofs.
