Vital Village Networks' Community Data Workgroup Series highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive housing crisis assessment in Greater Boston. In 2024, residents, housing justice advocates, and community leaders collaboratively designed and distributed a survey that revealed persistent challenges: rising housing costs, a shortage of affordable units, income inequality, ongoing discrimination and displacement. Respondents shared personal experiences, like doubling up with family to avoid homelessness, and voiced concerns that new developments often exclude legacy residents and overlook real community needs.
