No More Lac-Mégantics!

We stand with you, people of Lac-Mégantic, on this July 6th anniversary of the oil train wreck that devastated your community. I pledge to support rail safety and accountability so this doesn’t happen again.

July 6th will mark three years since a train of Bakken crude oil headed for the U.S. exploded and decimated the rural Quebec town of Lac-Mégantic, burning 47 adults and children to death in an immense fireball.  Some bodies are thought to have been vaporized.

The crash left an ongoing legacy of personal destruction and environmental damage that will never be fully corrected. Three survivors have since taken their own lives as a result.

Residents continue to press the Canadian government and the U.S.-owned railroad company to take measures to safeguard this and other communities.  So far, the response has been inadequate.

The Citizen's Coalition of Lac-Mégantic has called for July 6th to be a day of remembrance for the victims, and a day for all to renew their dedication to fighting for rail safety so no other families and communities suffer the same fate.
