Demand Leaders in New York, Los Angeles, and New Orleans End The Jail Crisis

Millions of people across the U.S. are languishing behind bars every day. In 2021 sixteen people died in New York City Jails, including the Rikers Island Jail Complex, and over 12,500 individuals are held in inhumane conditions in Los Angeles County’s jail systems, including L.A.’s notorious Men’s Central Jail.

City leaders in New York, Los Angeles, and New Orleans can close broken jails and prevent new jails from being built.

Add Your Name and Help Us Continue:

  • Organizing with advocacy partners and allied policymakers to demand New York City’s leaders decarcerate Rikers Island and permanently close the jail there.

  • Organizing with partners to close Men’s Central Jail, reduce the L.A.Jail population by one-third, and encourage the County to prioritize a care-first, community-oriented approach.

  • Working to prevent the creation of new jails in New Orleans and with the New Orleans Parish Sheriff's office to prioritize community support.

Join us and demand public officials decarcerate and close broken jails and prevent new jails from being built across the U.S.
