Start a Beyond Plastics Local Group

Beyond Plastics Local Groups are made up of three or more dedicated grassroots activists who want to decrease plastic pollution in their town, city or state through education, community action, and policy work. These activists will receive training and support from Beyond Plastics to help them achieve plastics reduction victories on their home turf. The most meaningful work toward ending plastic pollution begins at the local levels of government and spirals outward and upward. To make it happen, we need you!

Please note: we also welcome existing organizations to become Beyond Plastics Affiliates. If you represent an existing local or state organization who would like to formally collaborate with Beyond Plastics to advance plastics reduction efforts in your area, please fill out our Affiliates form now.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE… Please take a close look at the Local Beyond Plastics’ Message, Purpose, and Principles, which is our foundation document and carefully consider its contents before moving forward with forming a local group or becoming an affiliate.

Local groups are self-directed but Beyond Plastics provides a continuing level of infrastructure and guidance to help the groups stay in sync with our organizational efforts. Our role is to support you by answering questions, connecting you with resources or contacts, and helping you find one another to serve as sounding boards. Here's what we provide to our Local Groups:

  • A monthly virtual Beyond Plastics Groups General Meeting which any groups members may attend.

  • Ready-to-use campaign materials and organizing toolkits.

  • Up-to-date information from our staff watchdogs who will highlight policies of interest or concern.

  • Access to a paid Zoom account for hosting meetings and webinars.

  • A Slack channel and guidelines for inter- and intra-group communication within and between groups.

  • Quarterly educational webinars.
