No matter who we are or where we live in Maine, most of us agree that everyone deserves a place to call home. That’s why ensuring everyone has access to safe, affordable housing is a top priority at MPA. We know home looks different for everyone and we’re trying to better understand where our members call home.

We’ve been seeing a lot of stories in the news lately about wealthy corporations buying up manufactured housing communities, and then turning around and jacking up the rent. Rents that used to rise modestly are now rising rapidly, putting residents (many of whom are on fixed incomes) at risk of losing everything. If you’ve had this experience, please let us know!

We’re working with Rep. Cheryl Golek on a bill to protect people who live in Maine’s manufactured housing communities from this kind of rent gouging. If we fail to protect these communities, tens of thousands of Mainers will be at the mercy of rising lot rents.
