TAX CORPORATE GREED NOW!
Everyday Canadians are struggling. Inflation might be slowing—but rents and grocery prices are still higher than ever, with no signs of coming down. And automation is turning our job market upside down.
But while we pick up side hustles and go into debt to afford basic necessities, Canada’s wealthiest corporations are taking advantage of these crises and raking in massive profits.
"From 2021 through 2023, Canadian corporations collected $441 billion more in profits than expected based on the average rate of return on assets over the previous decade. By definition, these are “excess” profits..." Taxing excess profits in Canada: An urgent proposal for action from Canadians for Tax Fairness (2024).
Workers are not seeing any of this profit, with tons of it going to fill executive's pockets and shareholder buybacks. We can not let a small number of ultra wealthy corporations and their executives run this country. First, we must tax the skyrocketing profits of these corporations, and then, we have to fight like hell to push the government to invest that money in solutions that make life more affordable and fight the climate crisis.
