Add Your Name. Tell Rep. Mark Green to resign from Congress now.
Republican Rep. Mark Green (TN), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, announced that he has accepted a job in the private sector with an undisclosed employer. But he intends to remain in Congress until Republicans enact Trump’s signature budget package into law.
Ethics experts have called Green’s decision to remain in Congress indefinitely “unprecedented” and a “disqualifying conflict of interest” because, even as we don’t know the name or industry of Green’s future employer, the bill he plans to help pass touches on “every industry”.
As Popular Information writes, Green’s refusal to resign ahead of the vote “raises reasonable questions about whether a member of Congress is voting in the best interest of their constituents or representing the interests of their employer.”
For example, would a vote to take healthcare away from tens of millions of people to further fund ICE raids and the Department of Homeland Security benefit Green’s future employer? Given his committee chairmanship, that is not a stretch.
