Memorandum of Understanding with Partner Campaigns (MOU)

This agreement’s goal is to outline the relationship between Partner Campaigns and the Nation Inside (www.nationinside.org) platform. Nation Inside is a project of Narrative Arts.

Partner Campaigns are campaigns hosted on the Nation Inside platform by individuals, organizations, or groups of organizations.

Nation Inside's goal is strengthening the communications infrastructure for the criminal justice movement. Nation Inside is committed to providing tools and improving the effectiveness of communications among justice groups and the public. Nation Inside's objectives are to:

  • Provide cutting edge communication tools to support grassroots efforts to campaign more effectively.
  • Offer training, networking and advice to members that advance their campaigns.
  • Remove cost barriers for our movement. Nation Inside does not charge members for use of its service.
  • Strengthen ability of justice groups to influence national, regional and local media.
  • Network the campaigns together to build a stronger movement.

Nation Inside organizes trainings and training content that helps our partners advance their campaigns.

Nation Inside ask that each campaign identify no more than five key contact people to act as point people or CAMPAIGN MANAGERS for their campaigns with Nation Inside, who will communicate any concerns or issues directly to us. These contact people must sign the below working agreement.

Understandings:

Members will never lose the contact data they bring to Nation Inside. Nor will Nation Inside, or anyone else, have access to your data. Nation Inside trainers, support staff and/or contract workers can access your database, at your request, to provide technical support. To be clear, we will not email or your contacts or campaign members using your list or data. We will send you, the Campaign Manager, emails and opportunities that you can choose to pass onto your contacts. If a group decides to terminate their membership, the most updated version of the data would be returned to them and their specific campaign site will be archived. Archived is defined as taking the campaign site off-line.

Content added by users, or members of the public, to Nation Inside as individual items (video, audio, or blogs) will not be taken down if you remove your site. This means if “Jane” shares a story and uploads it to the site that individual content, even if it relates to your campaign, will remain live. Nation Inside does agree, after an internal review process, to remove any content that is deemed problematic or flagged by our users.

Member campaigns agree to abide by Nation Inside user agreements and terms of use, as stated on the website’s TERMS OF USE and PRIVACY POLICY.

Nation Inside’s staff and volunteers are committed to providing technical and communication support to the best of our capacity. Campaign users are encouraged to communicate concerns and suggestion for the betterment of the Nation Inside platform. Email us ideas or issues directly at info@nationinside.org. Key campaign users will be provided both phone and email access to Nation Inside support staff, as well as membership on a “Campaign Manager only” listserv to post ideas, air concerns, and help build the Nation Inside community. Nation Inside is not a coalition, as such, we are at this point not attempting to create alignment between our campaign partners. Our shared communication and work together is focused on skill building and communication capacity. That said, it is our hope that networking will occur among our partners.

Nation Inside reserves the right to push banner updates (for trainings and other opportunities relating to the overall site -- not actual ads) on campaign pages and make other adjustments to the campaign template as deemed necessary by Nation Inside. We will seek feedback and support from you regarding any adjustments to the functionality of the site and see you as the community we are serving.

Campaign pages will have a header and footer which links the individual campaign into the broader “Nation Inside” platform. Building the Nation Inside communication capacity will advance all campaigns on the site. Content generated by the Campaign will be highlighted on the Nation Inside homepage (www.nationinside.org) as well as shared on social media and other communication streams.

Nation Inside staff can provide technical assistance, based on our capacity, in the form of webinars, press release development, narrative campaign support, and strategy advice to your campaign and users. In addition Nation Inside is dedicated to “pushing” out content you develop to our broader social network and targeted contacts.

Nation Inside’s platform cannot be used to target non-public individuals and/or non-public officials. Do NOT post libelous statements on this website or use any tools relating to this website for any form of libelous statement or other acts. Please review our Terms of Use for additional information. Nation Inside reserves the right to remove any campaign, or user, or content, at any time which violates our user agreements or for any other reason. We do not anticipate having to take such action and we DO NOT monitor all the content on the site.

Conflict Resolution

We are dedicated to solving any issues or conflicts that may arise between campaigns and Nation Inside. It is important for a clear communication and process to be in place to resolve any issues that may arise. Below are the steps we will use to resolve a conflict after attempts have been taken outside of the formal process.

Steps to resolving a conflict that could not be worked out informally:

The first step is for a letter to be sent to the other party describing the point(s) of conflict and/or concerns that specifically states that this is a “request for conflict resolution.” Within 10 business days of the letter being sent a meeting (virtual or face-to-face) will take place to address the issue(s) outlined in the letter. The meeting will utilize a pre-agreed agenda to work the group through to a resolution and may be attended by Nation Inside team members and the Campaign Managers identified with the campaign. If this process does not work, the second step is to bring in an outside volunteer facilitator to work with the group to resolve the conflict. Nation Inside will recommend the outside volunteer facilitator and seek agreement to their role from all involved parties. The third step is to utilize the resources of the Narrative Arts/Nation Inside advisory board to see if a resolution can be reached. While we do not anticipate conflicts that we cannot solve together, we wanted to be sure to share a process for solving any issues that may occur in our work together.

This MOU will be updated from time-to-time as we learn from the Nation Inside effort. Each individual campaign manager from your campaign must sign this form on the right. Please send an e-mail to info@nationinside.org with a list of your campaign managers (maximum of 5).
