Michigan cares about its natural resources, even if Rep. Bishop doesn't

In Michigan, we not only love our beautiful natural resources, but we depend on them to keep our families healthy, and our economy strong. If elected, I will make protecting our environment and Great Lakes -- and the businesses that depend on them -- a priority.

Our current representative, Rep. Bishop, knows just how much Michiganders love our environment – which is why this month he has attempted to paper over a decades-long record of voting against environmental protections. It was a political ploy and totally transparent. The Michigan League of Conservation Voters has awarded Rep. Bishop an abysmal 5% lifetime score on protecting the environment.

But his record isn’t surprising, given that Bishop has taken tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry. He has consistently voted the will of his corporate donors, rather than the interests of his own voters. I spent my career in national security, so I know one thing for sure: a threat to our environment is a threat to our security.

If you can’t sustain your business because our lakes and rivers have become so polluted, that’s a threat to your security.

If polluters continue to write the rules and write the checks to buy votes from our representatives, that’s a threat to our security.

Sign your name: Tell Rep. Bishop and the fossil fuel industry that the environment is a priority for Michigan.
