This November we have a chance to improve our state’s rideshare industry by giving rideshare drivers the option to join together in a union.

Rideshare drivers help us get where we need to go. They get us to work and school and bring us home to our families. Without them our lives would be harder. Millions of other workers in Massachusetts are guaranteed the option to form a union, but right now, there’s no way for rideshare drivers to do the same.

Rideshare drivers deserve the kind of pay and treatment on the job that will let them support their families and keep a roof over their heads.

Question 3 on the November ballot would give Massachusetts rideshare drivers the option to join a union — just like nurses, bus drivers and warehouse workers — while also maintaining their flexibility and independence.

Rideshare drivers in our state have made great progress in recent years, but it’s just a start on what they need to support their families.

The new minimum wage doesn’t include the expenses that come out of drivers’ pockets, like vehicles, gas, insurance and maintenance. And drivers are only getting paid for the times when a passenger is in the car or when they have a passenger they are activelypicking up. After expenses, most drivers make less than the Massachusetts minimum wage of $15 an hour.

Question 3 will give rideshare drivers the option to join a union and negotiate with rideshare companies to improve pay, benefits and working conditions. And a recent driver survey showed 95% support for the option to join a union.

Voting Yes on Question 3 is the best way to empower rideshare drivers to help build a better industry for drivers, and for all of us.

En noviembre tendremos la oportunidad de mejorar la industria de transporte compartido en nuestro estado, dándoles a los choferes compartidos la opción de unirse en un sindicato.

Los choferes de transporte compartido nos ayudan a llegar adonde tenemos que ir. Nos llevan a la escuela y nos traen de vuelta a nuestras familias. Sin ellos nuestras vidas serían más complicadas.

Millones de trabajadores en Massachusetts gozan del derecho de formar un sindicato, pero en estos momentos a los choferes compartidos no les es posible hacer lo mismo.

Los choferes compartidos se merecen el tipo de pago y de trato en el trabajo que les permita mantener a sus familias y tener un techo para ellos.

La Pregunta 3 en la boleta de votación de noviembre les brindará a los choferes compartidos de Massachusetts la opción de unirse en un sindicato —igual que las enfermeras y los trabajadores de almacenes—, pero siempre manteniendo su flexibilidad e independencia.

Los choferes compartidos han logrado en años recientes muchos avances en nuestro estado, pero eso es apenas el principio de lo que necesitan para brindar sustento a sus familias.

El nuevo salario mínimo no incluye los gastos que el chofer debe pagar de su propio bolsillo, como el vehículo, la gasolina, el seguro y el mantenimiento. Y los choferes sólo reciben pago por el tiempo que los pasajeros están en el carro.

Tras descontar sus gastos, la mayoría de choferes ganan menos del salario mínimo de Massachusetts, que es $15 la hora.

La Pregunta 3 les brindará a los choferes compartidos la opción de afiliarse a un sindicato y negociar con las compañías de transporte compartido respecto a sus pagos, beneficios y condiciones de trabajo. Además, una reciente encuesta entre los choferes demostró que el 95% de ellos apoya la opción de tener sindicato.

Votar Sí en la Pregunta 3 es la mejor manera de empoderar a los choferes compartidos para ayudarles a forjar una mejor industria para los choferes, y para todos nosotros.
