Join my campaign for a Unite fit for the 21st century
Unite is not doing enough to fight for young workers - the future of our union - join my campaign to change that.
I am running as an independent candidate for the Young Members seat on the Unite Executive Council to fight for a radical strategy to make sure our union is fit for the 21st century.
I'll fight for a Unite that does not shirk its political or industrial responsibilities to young workers, and utilises our power effectively to defend and advance the interests of working people.
My experience speaks for itself - from organising workers at 13th Note in Glasgow to strike against unfair pay and safety concerns, to taking industrial action in the workplace for Palestine.
I never shy away from the challenge, like at the most recent policy conference, where I raised a point of order to ensure the Palestine issue was given the time our members deserve. Before us lies a colossal task. Right now, Unite is not doing enough to build a new generation of trade unionists.
Less than 5% of young workers are trade union members. We need to change that.
Join my campaign if you want a Unite that goes beyond pay and conditions to challenge the fundamental problems facing young workers in the 21st century.
If elected, my 5 pledges to Young Members are:
Be an independent voice of young members, putting our interests first every time, not beholden to any group or leadership;
To fight for Unite to develop a well-resourced and flexible strategy fit for the challenges facing young workers in the 21st century;
To demand an expansion of Unite’s community initiatives, redeveloping the broad base which has historically characterised our movement;
To hold the leadership to account, and ensure that, as a union, we do not shirk our international political responsibilities, including on issues like Palestine and Venezuela, which ultimately affect us all;
To campaign for the re-establishment of the Unite Political School and an expansion of young members education - paving the way for the next generation of reps and activists which this union so desperately needs.
