No subsidies for burning trees

Join Axe Drax for a demonstration to call on Ed Miliband to grant no subsidies for burning trees for electricity on Monday 2nd December in London.

WHERE?

We will be gathering outside the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, 3 Whitehall Pl, London SW1A 2AW

The exact pin can be found here: https://w3w.co/worth.silks.neon

And view the Department on Google Maps.

WHY?
Drax is the UK's single largest carbon emitter, burning primary and old-growth forests, harming biodiversity and fueling environmental racism. We already pay for this with a levy on our energy bills, yet Drax are lobbying for billions more.

This year, Drax burned 6Mt of wood pellets, the equivalent of 22 Christmas trees per household in the UK and if Miliband approves more subsidies that would mean a further 574 trees per household. We would foot the bill too, with £1,526 per household added to our energy bills to keep Drax's tree burning going.

That is far more trees than could be produced in the UK, so trees (in the form of wood pellets) are shipped in from around the world. The production process is polluting to the predominantly Black communities that live in their shadow, with formaldehyde and other cancer causing pollutants pumped into the air they breath. Whole communities can't breath, and it all comes back our governments energy policy.

We are in a crucial window to stop Drax's subsidies. Drax has not yet secured future funding past 2027. If we take action now, we stand a real chance of stopping Drax in its tracks.

WHAT?
We need to get people from 8am to 10am on Monday 2nd December for a creative visual demonstration in Whitehall, London. This will be a peaceful presence outside of the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) calling on ministers to stop tree burning subsidies. We will not be obstructing anyone from entering the building, and all our actions will be entirely legal and peaceful.

We ask people attending to ideally wear green and brown colours.

EDIT: We ask people attending to wear a Christmas jumper (cheesy is good) for a festive demonstration!
