On February 11, tell the Air District to get behind heat pump water heaters!

Please use this form to let us know we can count on you to attend the February 11, 2026 meeting of the Bay Area Air District's Stationary Source Committee in person or remotely, and make a comment! Here again are some talking points you might use:

  • Tell the board members If you have a heat pump HVAC or a heat pump water heater! Some board members need to be reassured that these appliances work well and save money.
  • NOx is formed during natural gas combustion when ambient nitrogen and oxygen combine at high temperatures. In the 9 County BAAD, NOx from boilers and furnaces is the largest source of this health-endangering pollutant, exceeding refineries and passenger vehicles. Requiring zero NOx appliances will go a long way toward reducing air pollution.
  • Pollution from gas water heaters is damaging the health of all of us, and causing dozens of deaths every year. Thousands of our neighbors are suffering from respiratory diseases made worse by this pollution. Surely the Bay Area can do better than to put up with these conditions.
  • The rule will reduce premature deaths due to heart and respiratory diseases because it reduces NOx and small particulates that lodge in people's lungs (PM2.5)
  • The proposed rule will be fair and equitable. The implementation working group, which includes all stakeholders, is crafting the rule with edge cases in mind: low income residents, old houses with inadequate wiring, restricted installation spaces, emergency installations. Exemptions will ensure that no one will be left without hot water.
  • Replacing inefficient natural gas water heaters with efficient electric heat pumps will save energy and save money on utility bills. Electricity made from renewable resources does not release planet warming CO2!

If you can phone in to comment and give us your cell phone number, we'll send you a text when the item comes up during the meeting.

Thank you!
