Opposing New Oil & Gas in Australian Waters and calling for the gov to safeguard the future of regional areas and surfing communities through investment in the creation of lasting jobs in the new energy and blue economies.
The Coalition Government announced the 2021 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release, with around 80,000 square kilometres of new acreage available for exploration in Commonwealth waters.
This release comprises 21 new areas -many located in proximity to premier waves, across the Bonaparte, Browse, Carnarvon, Otway, Sorell, and Gippsland basins off Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, Ashmore and Cartier Islands.
These areas have been chosen without consideration of climate, detailed environmental assessment, traditional owner engagement, or convo’s with the communities that may be impacted by them.
Outraged? So are we! Time to flip the bird at fossil fools so we can protect our waves, marine life, and climate.
We urge all surfers and ocean lovers to take immediate action by
1- Signing the petition opposing new fossil fuel development in Australian Waters. The petition will be delivered to The Australian Government and any companies that are successful bidders on the acreage areas.
2- Write to your local MP opposing the new Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release.
