We, the undersigned organizations, labor unions, and community groups, endorse the call for accountability and ethical governance in King County.

As community organizations rooted in King County, we are concerned about the influence of Microsoft and Amazon within King County government and the ongoing business relationships between the county and corporations whose technologies are linked to genocide, war, surveillance, state repression, and immigration enforcement/deportations.

Microsoft has faced widespread criticism for providing cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data infrastructure used by the Israeli military, including technologies that facilitate mass surveillance across Palestine and support military operations in Gaza. These concerns have been raised by international bodies such as the United Nations and the International Court of Justice, as well as human rights organizations including Amnesty International.

Microsoft and Amazon have also maintained contracts with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), providing cloud and AI technologies used for data processing and surveillance in immigration enforcement. These systems contribute to raids, detention, and deportations that harm immigrant and migrant communities across the United States.

At the same time, corporations headquartered in our region—especially Microsoft—have lobbied against progressive tax reforms in Washington, contributing to one of the most regressive tax systems in the country while communities face a housing crisis, rising costs of living, and cuts to essential public services.

King County law commits the county to advancing equity, fairness, and access to services for all residents, regardless of immigration status, including protections outlined in King County Code 2.15. These commitments must be reflected not only in policy but also in the county’s partnerships and procurement decisions.

We believe public institutions must be accountable to the communities they serve—not to corporations that profit from war, genocide, human rights abuses, surveillance, state repression, and or the criminalization/deportation of immigrants and migrants.

As organizations committed to justice, equity, and community wellbeing, we support the call for King County to reevaluate its relationships with corporations whose business practices conflict with these values.

As endorsing organizations, we support the following calls to action:

1. End King County’s contracts, advisory role and partnerships with Microsoft, Amazon and other technology corporations whose products are used for genocide, war profiteering, surveillance, repression, and immigration deportation.
2. Commit to transparency regarding all current and future contracts between King County and Microsoft, and Amazon including public disclosure of the scope, purpose, and value of these agreements.
3. Develop and adopt an ethical procurement, contracting policy and business partnership policies that prohibits King County from entering into or maintaining contracts and or business partnerships or investments with corporations whose technologies, or services, or products are used to facilitate human rights abuses, genocide, war crimes, state repression, surveillance, or immigration   enforcement/deportations that harms our communities.
4. Respond directly to the community petition letter, meet our petition demands, and honor the request to meet with community members, workers, and advocacy organizations who have raised these concerns to discuss how King County can align its procurement, partnerships, and policies with its commitments to equity, immigrant/migrant protection, and human rights.

Campaign Petition Demands:

Our campaign seeks to pressure both the County Executive’s Office and the County Council to commit to these demands. Furthermore, this campaign aims to take meaningful steps toward financial transparency through disclosure and divestment from corporations complicit in genocide, war crimes, human rights abuses, surveillance, state repression, and the detention and deportation of immigrant and migrant communities.

In March 2026, the Cut Ties Campaign successfully pressured the Washington State Treasury Office to divest from Caterpillar bonds worth $53 million. This victory is a reminder that when we organize collectively, we can win—and that divestment is a powerful tool for accountability.

Additionally King County council and Seattle City Council instituted a moratorium on the construction or expansions of new immigration detentions centers. Our pressure campaigns do work and have real material impact on lives.

In other cities, and state such as Minnesota. Anti War MN successfully pressured St. Paul city council to end their grants to a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin. Ohio Divest coalition successfully pressured Athens County to end their bond issues to Israel worth over $300,000. Cuyahoga County, Ohio froze $3 million in Israeli bonds. Summit County, Ohio allowed $1 million investment in Israel Bonds to mature without reinvesting which officially ends the bond agreement and this is due to Ohio Divest coalition's pressure campaign. Furthermore, Franklin county and Mahoning County followed suit. Across the country from state to state, city to city and county to county our collective divestment pressure campaigns are successful. Our coordinated national actions and networks are making enormous impacts.

A reminder that our communities are global—people, organizations, and communities around the world have taken this pledge and are working toward the same goal.
