Organizational Sign-On Against Devereux
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is planning on opening a children’s detention facility in Devon, PA. The practice of locking up migrants seeking a better life is a multi-million dollar industry in the U.S. Last year, the for-profit company VisionQuest announced plans to open a $5.3 million youth detention facility in the heart of North Philadelphia.
Now, with a $14 million contract on the line, Devereux plans to open a youth detention center in Devon, PA. and quietly, with no community input. But Devon, PA community members have stood up against Devereux and we must stand with them by continuing to oppose detaining immigrant children in our state.
Like VisionQuest, Devereux has a has a history of abuse against young people in their care. Nine employees have been arrested and charged with assault related charges since November and Devereux is currently being sued by another family for negligence that led to multiple sexual assaults under their watch.
Meanwhile, the top 10 executives in Devereux make close to $4 million combined and yet call themselves a non-profit. It is clear to us who is profiting from these new contracts and it most certainly will not be the young people who are in their care.
It is clear to us who is profiting from these new contracts and it most certainly will not be the young people who are in their care.
We the undersigned, together with members of the Devon, PA community, urge the Board of Supervisors of Easttown Township to deny Devereux’s request and stop the rampant rise of migrant detention in the state of Pennsylvania. .
