The Coalition on Human Needs and partner organizations have drafted a letter to Congress urging lawmakers to reject further cuts to basic needs programs through a “Reconciliation 3.0” package or any other legislative vehicle. The letter calls on Congress to prioritize protecting people struggling to make ends meet and to reject proposals that would increase hardship for families already facing rising costs of health care, food, housing, and other necessities.
Recent cuts to SNAP, Medicaid and the ACA, higher education, the Child Tax Credit, and other human needs programs have already had significant impacts on families and communities. The letter warns that additional cuts would make it harder for families to buy food, access health care and other services, pay rent, and meet everyday needs. Instead, Congress should protect and strengthen health care, food assistance, housing, child care, care services that enable older adults and people with disabilities to remain in their homes, and other basic needs programs.
Local, state, and national organizations are all encouraged to sign this letter. We hope you will add your organization's name and circulate this request to other groups in your networks.
Please note: This sign-on letter is for organizations only, not individuals.
