Pledge to Break Through the Climate Silence

Seniors are breaking through the climate silence. Because silence is no longer an option. We’re opening conversations in our communities, reducing polarization, and helping Canadians talk openly and honestly about climate again.

Silence weakens democracy, delays solutions, and protects fossil fuel interests. Together, we can re-open the space for action.

Together, we pledge to call on the federal government to Break Through the Climate Silence, including:

  1. Tell the truth, name the climate crisis clearly. Publicly acknowledge that Canada is in a climate emergency, and that its impacts are already affecting Canadians.

  2. Move faster, align policy with climate science. Commit to accelerating emissions reductions and renewable energy deployment at a pace consistent with climate science.

  3. Lead on renewable energy, treat the transition as nation-building. Commit to accelerating Canada’s investment in clean electricity, grids, storage, electrification, and energy efficiency.

  4. Stop making it worse, no new fossil fuel expansion. Reject new fossil fuel expansion and public subsidies that lock Canada into higher emissions, higher costs, and greater future risk.

  5. Protect people, make climate action affordable, healthy, and fair. Ensure climate policies lower household costs, protect health, and prioritize those most affected.
