Pledge To Strike
We stand together in this moment of emergency. The COVID pandemic is hitting us hard. Racial injustice, economic disparity and climate change are hitting us harder. Now is the time to take action on all three, and STRIKE! We are calling on ratepayers all over New England to join in to close the last big coal fired power plant in the region, and to move money from unnecessary subsidies to the people who need it most. We are in unprecedented times, and utilities must take unprecedented action to address the crises we face.
Once you pledge to strike we'll provide you with the resources to make it happen (including some coal to send to your utility!), and introduce you to the fellowship of strikers across the region.
I pledge to STRIKE from paying my electric bill starting September 1, 2020. Instead of payment, I will send to my utility a letter with our demands: that subsidies (forward capacity payments) to fossil fuel generators be immediately stopped and redirected to ratepayer relief for the next year, and after that be redirected to efficiency, conservation and renewable energy generation. And if I am financially able I will use my money to redress the wrongs of racial and economic injustice exacerbated by the pandemic, and send the value of my utility payment to those who are most in need in these times.
