We do so not out of convenience, but out of necessity.

Though we stand firmly behind California’s independent redistricting commission, we cannot close our eyes to the danger in front of us. The far-right conservatives and MAGA-controlled states and representatives are redrawing electoral maps to tip the balance of power in their direction and take control of our federal government. Proposition 50 is a tool to combat these actions.

The coming 2026 congressional primaries will be a battleground where the very meaning of democracy is tested, and Proposition 50 offers a temporary—yet essential—measure to safeguard the people’s voice against the brute force of MAGA-backed schemes of voter suppression and subversion. We are not naïve; redistricting is never a change to take lightly. But history teaches us that silence in the face of those who would dismantle justice is complicity — we have a responsibility to speak out. When our democracy is under attack, when the vote itself is under siege, we are called to act—not in some distant future, but now.

Over the last few months, we have seen how the national guard & federal law enforcement agencies have descended into our streets, causing panic and fear in vulnerable communities. The federal government continues to act with impunity, terrorizing our people, and we will do everything in our power to safeguard our civil liberties, democracy, and protect our people.

To defend the dignity of our communities and to preserve the liberatory work of our elders, past & present, we endorse Proposition 50.
