Highways England intend to carry on with 'vegetation clearance' for the A38 road scheme even though there is a legal challenge underway - that means that thousands of trees, including 100 iconic mature trees at Markeaton Park, could be destroyed for a road expansion that might not happen. Highways England have only committed to protecting a handful of the trees (those protected by TPOs) during this time. We need to persuade them to leave ALL the trees alone until the legal challenge has run its course!
