Protect Black Maternal Health

Right now, Black people are *3 TO 4 TIMES* more likely than white people to die in labor or from related complications and Black babies are more than *2 TIMES* as likely to die in their 1st year than white babies. This is unacceptable and a deadly part of the systemic racism that Cori is working to dismantle.

Over the years, more programs have been started to close the gap in maternal mortality, so that Black birthing people and their babies have an equal chance at survival as their white counterparts. Initiatives like the Abundant Birth Project in San Francisco have supported Black and brown families overcoming the gaps in our healthcare system.

But now these programs are being thwarted by conservative groups who are suing them for supporting Black and brown people who have been failed by our healthcare system. Rightwing groups are now using the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that found race-conscious admissions to colleges and universities to be unconstitutional to eliminate racial preferences in many of our institutions. We can’t let them.
