The fossil fuel industry has found its next target: the Coral Triangle—the most biodiverse marine ecosystem on Earth.

The Coral Triangle is the epicentre of global marine biodiversity, often called the “Amazon of the Seas.” Spanning the waters of Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste, it contains 76% of the world’s known coral species and thousands of reef fish species.

Its mangroves, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs form an interconnected life-support system that sustains migratory tuna populations, endangered marine turtles, and whales, and supports the lives and livelihoods of 360 million people. Yet fossil fuel companies want to carve it up with dirty gas terminals and pipelines.
