Reading Group: The Divide By Jason Hickel
We all deserve to live in a world where our basic needs are met. Yet, hundreds of millions of people live in extreme poverty and inequality is skyrocketing around the world. Likewise, the COVID-19 crisis has exposed the weaknesses of our global institutions and our governments to address our most basic political, economic, and social rights.
Why did this happen? And what can we do about it?
Join Jake Werner, one of the co-founders of Justice is Global, for a reading group to learn more about globalization, development, and the global institutions that maintain structural inequality. We'll read The Divide by Jason Hickel and talk about current movements organizing for progressive internationalism and global justice.
This will be a remote reading group over Zoom video call; we welcome participants from across the world. We will start on May 30th at 11am US Central Time.
Jake Werner is a historian of modern China and an incoming fellow at Boston University's Global Development Policy Center. His work has appeared in Foreign Policy, the Nation, and Made in China.
