Demand Schools Reject Trump’s Gulf of America Imperialist Fantasy!

Donald Trump’s latest executive order decreeing that the Gulf of Mexico be renamed the “Gulf of America” is a blatant attempt to rewrite geography and impose his imperialist, racist fantasies on public education.

Trump’s decree sends a message that history and global consensus don’t matter if they don’t align with his nationalist agenda. What’s next? Renaming the Atlantic Ocean? Rewriting history books to erase the contributions of other nations and frame America as the sole architect of progress?

But here’s the truth: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has already declared the obvious: The rest of the world will continue to call it the Gulf of Mexico. International maps, leaders, and institutions won’t bend to Trump’s bullying. Now, we must ensure that our schools don’t either.

This isn’t an absurd vanity project, it’s a direct attack on American education.

Trump’s decree is designed to force American schools to embrace his imperialist agenda by rewriting global geography, erasing non-American contributions, and stoking nationalist propaganda.

We’ve fought back against Trump’s authoritarian agenda before, and we’ve won. We’ve stood up against book bans, fought for science-based climate education, and protected the integrity of our public schools.

Now we must protect our classrooms and our children’s right to a fact-based education by keeping Trump’s Gulf of America propaganda out of our schools.

The Gulf of Mexico is not the Gulf of America. Demand public schools teach students the same facts as the rest of the world no matter what Trump decrees by adding your name now.
