What: Join professor Trevien Stanger, Dr. Susan Masino, Representative Amy Sheldon (D-Middlebury), and Zack Porter of Standing Trees for an evening discussion of rewilding and opportunities for public wildlands conservation in Vermont, with a focus on the landmark bill that would recover old forests across two-thirds of Vermont state land. Expect a 45-minute presentation and plenty of time for Q & A.

More Info: Old forests are the original habitat for nearly all of Vermont's native terrestrial species, but they are now 'functionally absent' from the landscape. How can we put more forests on a path to growing old and wild?
This discussion will highlight the need for landscape-scale rewilding in Vermont, with a particular focus on the Vermont Climate Resilience and State Wildlands Act, the visionary bill that would recover old forests across 268,000 acres of Vermont state land. Trevien Stanger is an Instructor of Environmental Studies and the Program Manager of Ecological Restoration at the Institute for the Environment, Saint Michael's College. Susan Masino is the Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Applied Science at Trinity College, and a lead author on numerous scientific papers relating to the climate, biodiversity, and human health implications of wild forests. Representative Amy Sheldon (D-Middlebury) is the Chair of the Vermont House Committee on the Environment and sponsor of the Vermont Climate Resilience and State Wildlands Act. Zack Porter is the Executive Director of Standing Trees.
