Salem Workers Deserve More is fighting for a city that workers can afford to live in, not one that serves the ruling rich. The campaign seeks to accomplish this by amending the City Council's Fiscal Year 26 Budget in transformative ways:

  1. Fund Social Housing For All that is desirable and outcompetes private development.
  2. Provide Safe, Fast, and Free Public Transit so that working people do not have to risk their lives to get to work or reach a grocery store without a car.
  3. Tax The Rich by raising income tax rates on households earning over $200,000 a year, as well as fining greedy landlords and corporations hoarding vacant properties.
  4. Promote a Responsible Safety Budget by restoring Fiscal Year 2025 spending levels on the police and equitably redistributing funds towards mental health counseling, our library, and education. Let us proactively address the root causes of crime rather than pad bloated budgets!
  5. Fight back against slumlords by creating a Landlord Accountability Department, including city inspectors and a hotline to report tenant rights violations.
