Join us as Sarah Jane Bradley (Land Justice Futures), Sarah Classen (Loretto Community) and Reverend Carol Rose (Community Peacemaker Teams and Shalom Mennonite Fellowship) report back from a week of prayerful action at Oak Flat with the Apache Stronghold!

Nestled in the Tonto National Forest of southeast Arizona, Oak Flat / Chi'chil Biłdagoteel is an enduring spiritual and cultural holy site for the Apache peoples. Following the “discovery” of copper deposits in the area in 1995, mining giant Resolution Copper has attempted to pursue Oak Flat for copper mining by lobbying and bribing US Congress members, eventually cutting a backdoor deal to approve a land exchange. If pushed forward, Resolution Copper will wreak irreversible havoc on life, leading to the devouring of the sacred Oak Flat by a 2-mile-long pit, misusing 250 billion gallons of water, and creating a 8,647 acre toxic dump for mine waste.

Presently, the Apache Stronghold—a group of Apache, other Native, and non-Native land defenders and allies—has established a protest encampment to protect the Holy Ground at Chi’chil Biłdagoteel.

Come hear about what Sarah, Susan, and Carol are learning about this critical struggle, and how we can mobilize to move in solidarity with Indigenous people for crucial land justice fights.
