Fossil fuel corporations have known for decades that their products would fuel climate chaos and disasters — but they deceived the public for decades to protect their profits. Now communities in Illinois and across the U.S. are fighting to make these companies pay for the harm they’ve caused.
The City of Chicago is suing ExxonMobil, Chevron, and other Big Oil companies to hold them accountable for their climate lies and recover associated costs. State legislators have also introduced a Climate Superfund bill that would make polluters pay for projects to protect our residents against climate damages.
Fossil fuel companies are pushing for immunity so they can avoid paying their fair share. If we lose our right to hold Big Oil accountable, everyday people will be left paying the costs of stronger storms, flooding, wildfires, and toxic pollution.
