A few weeks ago, President Biden said that "Facebook is killing people," and he was right.

Facebook allows algorithmically amplified misinformation to run rampant on its platform with devastating consequences, including an exponential rise in vaccine hesitancy.

Facebook determines the order you see posts on your News Feed with an algorithm, instead of letting YOU decide. It’s rigging the game to sell more ad space and rake in profits.

The company is well aware of its destabilizing effects on society. In an internal report from 2018, they admitted, "Our algorithms exploit the human brain's attraction to divisiveness."

Despite these warnings, the megacorporation's leadership ignored those findings. Why? Because they don't want to make changes that upset the profitable ecosystem.

Facebook’s algorithm prioritizes divisive content. More divisiveness online means more angry eyeballs on ads. More money for Facebook. The rules for content allowed on the website are arbitrary and change. It also suppresses important content, like activism for racial justice and even public health guidance from actual doctors

Although the company pretends to crack down on misinformation, it refuses to be honest about how often misinformation is viewed and spread on the platform, and blocks researchers who try to find out.

After the 2020 election, Facebook changed its algorithm by changing news sources’ quality requirements. But when partisan outlets complained, Zuckerberg immediately caved.

This has to stop. Period. We cannot allow a company worth more than most countries, made up of individuals who weren't elected, to use their power indiscriminately. It's time to end Facebook’s algorithm for GOOD!
