Sign to tell federal and state officials: Shut down “Alligator Alcatraz” now

Nearly 1,000 immigrants are locked up in Republicans’ cruel and dehumanizing “Alligator Alcatraz.”

In the extreme heat, toilets and AC have stopped working multiple times, and people have been rarely able to shower or wash hands. Their loved ones have described overflowing toilets and medical neglect, with one saying: “They eat once a day and have two minutes to eat. The meals have worms.”

News outlets have confirmed that hundreds of these detainees have committed no crime. Detainees haven’t been able to see or talk to lawyers, violating their due process rights. And one of the people crammed in cages at this internment camp seems to be a 15-year-old boy.

Nearby Tribal leaders are also speaking out against this disruption of their sacred homelands and ceremonial grounds in the Big Cypress National Preserve. The Constitution and other laws require federal and state governments to respect Tribes’ sovereignty over their ancestral lands. But without any notice or consultation with Tribes, federal and state agencies built the facility in just eight days.

Now, Trump and his administration are talking about spreading this project in other states. We’ve got to build public pressure right now to shut this down and stop other states from trying similar detention facilities.

Please add your name today to join Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and other members of Congress in demanding the Department of Homeland Security and ICE shut down this inhumane internment camp now. And demand state officials stop any similar projects in their states.
