In
Manitoba, the government continues to approve and subsidize massive
hydro-electric dam projects that have flooded out communities and
resulted in fish and wildlife population decline. Natural gas fracking
and open-pit sand mining continue to be supported as well. Unsustainable
farming practices and commercial fishing are the leading factors in the
surge of blue-green algae blooms in Lake Winnipeg, the world’s 10th
largest freshwater lake, where high nitrogen and phosphorus levels are
to blame for the expanding dead zone. 5G radiofrequency technology and
radioactive waste disposal are proposed projects that are in cabinet
deliberation. All of the above projects have and will continue to
degrade Manitoba’s natural environment, wetlands, lakes, freshwater
supply, air, and soil quality.
Extinction
Rebellion is an international movement that uses non-violent civil
disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and reduce the resultant risk
of social collapse. We are one chapter that is united under a shared story, strategy, principles, and values.
Letters, research, reports, and petitions have been sent for years. The government and industries are not listening and they have failed to take the necessary actions.
We are in a declared CLIMATE EMERGENCY. We are in a life or death situation of our own making. We are out of time. We need to fix this broken system. There ARE solutions. WE are the change.
