The death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an unthinkable loss for our country and our democracy. She was a champion for the unheard: her unwavering voice helped advance the cause of reproductive rights, racial justice, and the war on poverty.

In her dying words, Justice Ginsburg said, “'My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Justice Ginsburg understood, as we do, that the Supreme Court is the cornerstone of our democracy. It is the last failsafe against tyranny and the protector of the rule of law. But without a court that the people believe is legitimate, that acts as an unbiased defender of our constitutional rights, it will cease to play its vital role.
