California may be the 5th largest economy in the world, but we’re 41st in per-pupil funding, and dead last in the number of teachers per student.
And it turns out that in part, we have a corporate tax loophole in Proposition 13 -- an anti-schools, anti-infrastructure measure passed in the 1970s -- to blame.
By requiring large corporate landowners and investors to pay taxes based on fair market value, we’ll be able to invest $11 billion in our K-12 schools and community colleges, plus local services in cities and counties, all while protecting homeowners and renters.
That’s why we’ve joined the Schools and Communities First Coalition, a growing coalition of over 300 California education, health, civil rights, labor, and equity organizations.
We’re proud to be working alongside them to right the wrongs in Prop 13, and to support California’s teachers, students, communities, and future.
Let’s make sure this measure appears on the ballot in 2020 - sign up to have a petition mailed to your home.
