DSA Long Beach took up a resolution to join with the RCV-LB Coalition to push for the implementation of ranked choice voting for local elections.

While electoralism is one tactic in a diversity of tactics, it is necessary to contest the power of capital at every turn. RCV allows opportunities for candidates who are not favored by the dominant political parties.

With this in mind, DSA-LB has committed to supporting this coalition campaign to pressure City Council to put RCV on the November ballot in 2026. To do this, RCV-LB along with DSA-LB will work with the Equity Commission to make a recommendation to City Council.

This can't be done alone though. We've committed to mounting political education events, tabling, and doing direct outreach to City Councilmembers as part of our work with the RCV-LB coalition.
