Sign Up to Speak at Metro Council Public Hearing on the Budget

Speak Out for the Schools Our Kids Need on June 2nd

Where:  Virtual meeting- (sign up and we will send you the details)

When: Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:30 PM

What: Metro Council Public Hearing on the Budget

Why:

For more than a decade, our elected leaders have chosen consistently to underfund our public schools. As a result we are faced with a grim reality that includes hundreds of teacher vacancies resulting in thousands of students without a teacher in at least one class. Instead of ensuring that all students had what they needed to succeed, our city has embraced competition and school choice, a decision that has syphoned off funding to create a parallel charter district and left our schools vastly unequal in resources and support and closed schools exclusively in Black neighborhoods.

Even as we struggle with severe economic shortfalls caused by natural disaster and a global pandemic, we must still be a voice for Nashville's children. Now is an opportunity for our city to realign our priorities to benefit the actual people of Nashville and our future as a city. Whether you are advocating to have a certified teacher in every classroom, or for the social and emotional support our students will need, or for increasing access to the internet we need you to speak out for the schools our kids need.

Complete the form and we will send you the information about how to participate, talking points, and a reminder about speaking.
