Tell the GSA: Don't destroy the Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building

The Trump administration is trying to erase the history of Social Security and set the stage for the utter destruction of the program.

After Donald Trump reduced to rubble the East Wing of the White House, the Trump administration set its sights on destroying the Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building in Washington, D.C.—a building so important that art experts call it the Sistine Chapel of American Art.

The building was constructed as the headquarters of the Social Security Administration and incorporates publicly owned art that inspired civic pride and common purpose in the public servants who reported for duty in the building. These are historically significant murals, including Ben Shahn's "The Meaning of Social Security" and Seymour Fogel's "The Wealth of the Nation."

We need to fight back and save the building and its art now—before it's too late.

Please sign the petition to demand that the General Services Administration (GSA) immediately cease all plans to destroy the Wilbur J. Cohen Federal Building.

This is about more than a building and the art in it. The Trump administration wants to erase the true history of our Social Security system. This is consistent with the lies that Trump and his allies have spread about Social Security, and part of their push toward privatizing Social Security, which is the last pillar of economic stability that many Americans can count on.

Social Security was created for a purpose. Before Social Security was enacted, 50% of seniors lived in poverty. Today, fewer than 10% do.

We cannot allow this Orwellian plot to destroy Social Security to succeed. Add your name now to stand up for Social Security and save the Sistine Chapel of American Art!
