Socialist Night School is a political education series designed to help members and supporters of Central Iowa DSA better understand the political and economic systems we are organizing to change. These sessions combine reading, discussion, and collective learning to connect socialist theory with the real conditions we face locally and globally.

The curriculum for Socialist Night School draws from materials developed by the National Political Education Committee (NPEC) of the Democratic Socialists of America. These readings highlight key questions in socialist politics and DSA’s broader political analysis, helping chapters across the country build a shared foundation of knowledge.

Political education is a vital part of building a democratic socialist movement. It helps us:

• Develop a common language and understanding of the systems we’re organizing against.

• Connect theory, history, and practice to our local organizing work.

• Practice democratic discussion and comradely debate, engaging critically with different political perspectives.

• Build confidence among members to analyze political conditions and contribute their own insights.

• Grow a new generation of organizers who can facilitate discussions, teach others, and develop leadership skills within the movement.

These sessions are open to both new and longtime members. Whether you're just beginning to explore socialist ideas or have been organizing for years, Socialist Night School offers a space to learn together, sharpen our analysis, and strengthen our movement.
