SOLIDARITY ALERT: FAIR BUDGET COALITION’S HISTORIC ABUSE TOWARDS COMMUNITIES OF COLOR
SOLIDARITY ALERT/COMMUNITY SIGN-ON LETTER: Highlighting the Fair Budget Coalition’s tokenizing, abusive and oppressive management tactics. Addressing and STOPPING the normalized harmful and tokenizing culture that negatively mentally and physically impacts the Black and Brown communities, which is often justified by grassroots movements and organizations. The unaddressed historical abuse towards Black women in our community by The Fair Budget Coalition will no longer go unanswered!

Dear District of Columbia community members,
It’s time to show ALL of DC's decision makers what solidarity and community looks like. DC’s decision makers have created a culture of profit over the health and wellbeing of our communities. This extremely violent culture has negatively impacted our Black and Brown communities for far too long and IT STOPS NOW.
Addressing the harm and disparities of the oppressive and capitalist world we live in is a common goal held by grassroots movements and organizations. Actively fighting against these harmful systems of oppression and disparities should be measured far greater than a goal but should be held as values, morals and principles.
Today we come together in solidarity, as one community, to highlight the capitalist culture that is taking over our grassroots movement. It’s time we talked about and stopped the tokenization of our Black and Brown communities and hopes for profit.
We are calling on you to help us protect Black and Brown individuals with lived experience of oppression, who intentionally serve our communities. Holding decision makers across our grassroots landscape accountable for harm in the Black and Brown community is necessary to create and dismantle systems of oppression that are internalized and recreated in our work.
WE ARE THE MAJORITY AND IT'S TIME TO SPEAK UP!
Discouragingly, throughout DC’s grassroots landscape, many trusted comrades who stand with us in our fight to protect against these historically oppressive capitalist systems have continuously and unconsciously recreated the initial harm we swore to protect.
When decision makers and leaders in our community operate under a framework that exploits the health of our community for profit, it is deeply mentally damaging. It is damaging not only to our community but also to community-driven individuals being forced to implement it.
THE GOALS OF THE “SINCERELY, THE MAJORITY” MOVEMENT ARE THE FOLLOWING:
- To address and dismantle the culture of profit over people and systems of oppression normalized by decision makers in the grassroots landscape.
- To create a norm of addressing and repairing the harm and different forms of harm caused by those we are in community with, those we call friends or those we call our bosses.
- To block retaliation against individuals for speaking out against harm as a community
- To demonstrate that solidarity and community is POWER!
HIGHLIGHTING THE FAIR BUDGET COALITION’S TOKENIZING, ABUSIVE AND OPPRESSIVE MANAGEMENT TACTICS
It is within our aligned goals, values, principles and morals to defeat systems of oppression that have and continue to destroy generations of Black and Brown leaders in our communities. It is essential not to unconsciously or consciously implement these practices in order to protect each other.
The Executive Director, Niciah Mujihid of the Fair Budget Coalition, has failed in her job to defeat the oppressive and capitalist mindset. Niciah has committed an injustice to the communities we serve by unconsciously and consciously practicing and implementing a framework that values funding over the wellbeing of our community. She has normalized the use of capitalist and oppressive tactics to demoralize, disenfranchise and emotionally destroy not only her staff but many of our colleagues as well.
IT'S ESSENTIAL TO HIGHLIGHT THE UNADDRESSED HISTORIC ABUSE TOWARDS BLACK WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY BY THE FAIR BUDGET COALITION!
As a VILLAGE standing to protect the underserved communities and as those who belong to them, we have to address and stop the harm in our own spaces. Failing to protect each other and failing those who have devoted their lives to creating a more just world is no longer an option. If we allow this culture to continue, we as a people have not only failed ourselves but others and generations to come.
On Thursday, October 13, 2022, we begin a new norm! By anonymously signing on to this letter you will assist you, me, us, THE MAJORITY in removing power from an individual who is misusing the power we entrusted to them.
COMMUNITY DEMANDS
- Removal of Fair Budget Coalition Executive Director Niciah Mujihid
- Severance for harmed employees
- Public acknowledgement
Note: All signatures added to this sign on letter will remain 100% anonymous. However, it is important to remember that there is power in numbers. We are also asking large organizations who are NOT at risk of retaliation to sign on publicly! Help us protect each other, while we protect you! Retaliation against Black and Brown individuals for speaking out against harm will no longer be tolerated.
Sincerely, The Majority
