Solidarity Shabbat

After OSU Hillel expelled B'nai Keshet from the Jewish community for participating in a fundraiser for LGBTQ refugees, we asked you to join our call for Hillel to end the Standards of Partnership and fully include queer Jewish students.

Your response has been incredible. Jewish community members and allies from around the country reached out to B’nai Keshet with messages of encouragement. Over three hundred of you sent letters to OSU Hillel and Hillel International leadership, and organizations from across the political spectrum have released statements of support. Stonewall Columbus, the LGBTQ refugee organization for which B'nai Keshet fundraised, also wrote to Hillel urging them to change their policy.

This Friday, B’nai Keshet is building on this beautiful display of support by hosting a Shabbat dinner at Ohio State with as many allies as possible.  Join us by hosting a solidarity Shabbat dinner with your family or community -- either this Friday or sometime in the next few weeks.

At your shabbat, you can discuss themes of queer Jewish history and tradition; read a poem or prayer that relates to ‘welcoming the stranger’ and supporting refugees; and/or talk about issues of red lines in the Jewish community. You can plan a thorough program, or simply come together with your community.

Together, we will show Hillel what a vibrant, loving, and inclusive Jewish community looks like.
