Spring Doula Training: Scholarship Application Form

Soul 2 Soul Sisters and Jamaa Birth Village are thrilled to announce Tru's Community Doula Training© - a 4-day training intensive for 8 aspiring and seasoned Black Doulas hosted by Jamaa Birth Village, certified through BTK Consulting Firm© and facilitated by award winning Doula, Midwife and trailblazer, Brittany “Tru” Kellman.

The training provides Black Doulas with culturally-reflective instruction of evidence-based care to increase knowledge about and strengthen skills in supporting Black birthing persons, infants, and their loved ones. After completing this training doulas will become well-versed in:

  • Pre-conception wellness
  • Prenatal care and wellness
  • Labor & delivery support, comfort, advocacy, and the clear understanding of informed choice for their clients
  • Postpartum wellness for mama, baby, and family
  • The foundation and application of cultural ceremonies and traditions from varying ethnic backgrounds, making them an asset to families from abroad, including the ability to serve diverse families with varying religious faiths
  • Business sense and community enhancement
  • Individual and personal celebration, self-care inner-outer wellness

From the pool of applicants, 8 Black doulas will be selected for the training. The 8 Black doulas who are selected will pay a $100 non-refundable deposit and Soul 2 Soul Sisters will pay the remaining $750 fee per person as well as costs for training materials because #BlackDoulasAreSavingBlackLives

Following the training, doulas will receive membership to Sacred Seeds Black Doula Collective of Colorado. Through our Collective, doulas receive additional resources, mentorship, guidance in completing their certification process, opportunities to connect with local Black families seeking doula care, and much more.

4-Day Tru's Community Doula Training DETAILS

DATE: Thursday, April 29, 2021 through Sunday, May 2, 2021

TIME: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm MST

LOCATION: Zoom link provided upon receipt of deposit payment

COST: $100 (meal vouchers provided for all days of trainng)

Application Guidelines:

  • Must be currently living in Colorado
  • Must be available for ALL training dates
  • Must identify as Black, African, African-American and/or Person of African Descent to apply
  • Must display a readiness to do the sacred work of support people throughout their reproductive experiences
  • Can be an aspiring doula with no experience or a previously trained doula seeking continuing education

Application deadline is Sunday, February 28, 2021 by 11:59 PM (MST)

We are so excited for this unique and relevant training opportunity and we encourage as many aspiring and seasoned doulas as possible to apply. Although we can only accept 8 participants at this time, we will co-host this training and other gatherings for Black Doulas in the future and we will be sure to contact all who express interest.
