When National Grid saw communities organizing against its rate hike, it responded with a so-called “rate freeze”, conveniently timed in an election year to avoid public backlash. But the freeze changes nothing about what’s really happening behind the scenes.

The utility is still pursuing costly fracked gas infrastructure that New Yorkers could be forced to pay for, including funding for the Williams NESE pipeline and new LNG infrastructure at the Greenpoint LNG facility.

Within the year, National Grid is expected to seek additional approvals from state regulators that could lock customers into paying for unnecessary fossil fuel projects for decades to come.
